Introducing: Sara
I learned how to cross stitch back in the 90's when I was a Brownie in girl scouts. My mom was the leader and she bought each girl in our troop a "Dare to Dream" kit with a cat staring into a goldfish in a fish bowl. I loved how you could make something out of nothing, and the process was relaxing (when the thread wasn't tangling, of course!)
Once I got the hang of it, I altered the pattern for the fish, and my love of cross stitch and manipulating patterns was born. When I'm not cross stitching, I'm either chasing after my kids, reading, or working. I have a full-time job at an incorporating company in Delaware where I'm the systems analyst. I studied literature in college and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2007 with my BA in English, then went back to school for IT and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2016 with my AS in Computer Information Systems. |
What Drives Me
If you're a parent, you get it - my kids are my life. My son and my daughter are my shining stars; they drive me to work hard, push myself, and be the best I can be. They also are sheer exhaustion in tiny little wound-up packages. They have taught me kindness, patience, unconditional love, an enthusiastic zest for life, and that I am able to function on only 4 hours of sleep on an ongoing basis.
My husband is my rock. He gives great advice - both on my stitching projects and in life. Once you get your pattern proof, likely he's looked it over and offered suggestions on how to make it better. He is a great stay-at-home-but-also-works-three-days-a-week-dad. This business wouldn't be here without him.

The Creation of Sara's Stitching
I never thought I'd own my own business. Although I have drive and determination and I work hard, I just figured that life wasn't for me.
Then I learned about Stitch People and I saw these amazing cross stitch finishes people were able to create. It was pretty simple - follow a pattern to create cross stitches that have a few details (like hair and clothes and shoes) that look like you or someone else. Their patterns are pretty simplistic, however - they don't have patterns for realistic hair, and it's impossible to pattern every shirt ever made. They don't even give floss (thread) colors. A lot of the creation comes from the pattern maker (namely, me), from the pattern on shirts or dresses to the floss colors to the way the characters interact. That hand-holding pattern - that was made by me, not by Stitch People (theirs is a lot less realistic). The subtle eyelashes, the arm around the leg, the fonts - there's so much that comes from tweaking the pattern, or even creating brand new touches. No two portraits are the same.
I made a few for my husband - and after seeing his reaction to the portraits and how he marveled over every detail, it made me realize that maybe I could create those same feelings for other people.
And so Sara's Stitching was born. And I can't wait to create a portrait for you.
